Just can’t face lifting

I’ve been having a bit of a psychological block. It’s now a week since my last TT workout. I just can’t get myself fired up. I’ve procrastinated all weekend. Come around midnight this evening I decided well if I didn’t want to lift I would just do what I did want to do – intervals. Did five sets of heart rate intervals on the treadmill – one minute moderate hard (8kph), recovery as long as it took to get my HR back to 60%. I am now soaking wet and feel fantastic. OK, so it was only 20 minutes. And my muscles are probably atrophying as I type. But it’s better than not doing anything. And if not wanting to lift stops me from doing anything at all, which is what has been happening, I figure I may as well not fight it. It’ll no doubt pass. I will do tai chi and pilates, and I will run/walk. And hopefully, after a little break, I will come back to lifting raring to go. It’s a bit of dud note to finish out the TT contest (only 2 days to go), but I have been strong for most of it, have done better than I had ever imagined, and at least I am still being active.

    Angie It maybe a sign that you need to change things up a bit. That is take a good break from lifting for a while. Instead of fretting about not lifting just decide not to for a week. That way you won’t feel that you have let yourself down.

    Another thing is that you may be doing too much. With all the physical thing you do I am not surprised that you haven’t burnt out already.Your brain heard your body complaining and now your brain is telling you to take a break.

    In a Mike Robertson podcast with Alan Aragon, Alan said that one mistake many people who are trying to lose weight do is actually double up on training while reducing their calorie intake which is a recipe for disaster.     Take a break after Wednesday and I am sure you will feel even better.
