Balance, gelato and holiday workouts

A good week food and workouts-wise. Did 5 hours 14 mins exercise, despite switching my weights workout to 7 minute muscle, which only gives me 35 minutes resistance work in a week, compared to the two hours or so I was doing previously. The difference was mainly made up by the recommendation to walk 45 minutes most days – I did four days, but also did 45 mins kickboxing one day and boogied like a wild thang at a Basement Jaxx concert. Despite no longer specifically concentrating on my daily nutrition goals of the last three months, the habits seem to have stuck and I hit all of them anyway.

As for 7 minute muscle, I’m not quite sure what to make of it. It is certainly a lot easier to fit in than a longer workout, and if you miss a day, or two, as I did while waiting for my lat tower to be delivered, it’s easy to double up and make it up later in the week, unlike missing a 40 minute workout. The biggest problem I have with it is not the lifting but the recording, and have yet to work out how to do it all accurately without having hubby or a friend (thanks Annette) either watching the clock, taking notes or both. I will reserve judgment for a couple of weeks until I see what kind of results I get with it, I guess.

On the other hand, I haven’t done so well with my new three month ‘balance’ goals. In fact, I didn’t achieve any of them, despite setting myself smaller intermediate stepping stone goals. I drank three glasses of water at work ZERO days this week, went to bed before midnight, again, ZERO times, did ZERO yoga sessions, and managed to meditate for 20 minutes just once. As you can see, I haven’t really been trying. Hubby and I go away for a week on Sunday to celebrate his birthday. This seems like a good time to really concentrate on these goals. Also, we will be staying in a nice hotel with a basic hotel gym (cardio machines only, I think) and a pool. We will also no doubt be doing quite a bit of walking. I probably won’t have access to weights but will take my workouts with me in case there is a local gym I can use. I can do two of my five week two workouts this weekend before I leave, then compress the remaining three into one 21-minute workout so I only need to use the gym once later in the week. I’ll also take away a body-weight circuit in case I can’t access a gym, and do some pilates in the room. The bigger problem is going to be food. And wine. And gelato. Yes, we are going to Italy. What’s that mantra again? Because I want to be thinner, fitter and healthier. It will be about striking a balance between enjoying the pleasures that Italy has to offer without being a greedy fat pig with eyes bigger than my tummy (yes, THAT big!). But after the gains, and losses, I have made so far, I am hoping that I will now be motivated enough, and care enough about myself, to do this.
