Yoga kicks ass…mine!
I finally tried out my new Yoga DVD that has been sitting on my shelf for a few weeks. Regular readers will know that I am about as flexible as a metal rod and have had pretty uninspiring experiences with yoga in the past, but every now and again, I give it another try, because I have seen what it can do for people who practise it regularly.
In line with my Kathy Smith love-fest DVD collection, I decided to try out her Yoga Sculpt DVD. It has a beginner section, an intermediate section and a separate lower body firming section. Each of the first two is made up of standing exercises, floor exercises and a relaxation segment. You can do them individually or together.
Kathy herself has been doing yoga for over 20 years and based on my limited experience so far, this is going to be another hit in my DVD collection – she has yet to disappoint.
I did the beginner standing section. I was wearing my jammies at the time – I didn’t bother to get changed as it was a beginner workout. Hah! Soaked through. Sweating like a trooper. The session lasted 30 minutes and kicked my ass. But I feel great. Clear head. And not as useless as I have been made to feel after trying some other yoga workouts or classes. There was constant commentary on where to stop if you couldn’t get into certain positions and a couple of people demonstrating easier versions. As always, cuing was great and the “watch out for’s” usually spot on the money and very timely.
I actually can’t wait to try it again.
In other news, poor hubby has hurt his wrist, quite badly. He called me on his way back from A&E to tell me he was splinted up and in a lot of pain, but he felt guilty because he wouldn’t be able to do his workouts. After my initial questions of concern and soothing wifey noises, my next thought, though, I have to admit, was “Oh well, at least I’ll have something to write about on my blog.” ……
Anyway, if you have any suggestions for chest and shoulder workouts that do not put any weight through the wrist, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
‘night all.
